Special Programs at the Avalon
The Avalon Theatre supports its mission by exhibiting some of the most exciting year-round film programs in the Washington DC area. Our film series offer the newest in independent features, family films and world cinema, giving local filmgoers the chance to see stimulating films on the big screen all year long.
100 Years of Cinema Magic
The last 100 years of film, one decade at time. Explore a century of films for the young and the young-at-heart in celebration of the Avalon Theatre’s 100th birthday. Join us on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 10:30am, February-November for a historic film screening featuring very special guests.
Wednesday Signature Series
Held only at the Avalon, the Wednesday Signature Series is a group of six rotating programs that showcase unique films from around the world. Screenings are held on Wednesday evenings at 8:00pm in our historic downstairs theater.
Senior Cinema Thursday
A monthly event where we present our current feature at a special discounted price for seniors.

Invitation and Member-only Series
Cinema Classroom at the Avalon
Open to 6th-12th grade classes—and free for attendees—Cinema Classroom at the Avalon brings students from the metropolitan area together to view and discuss films with filmmakers and subject-matter experts in the Avalon’s historic, nonprofit theater.
