Based on Thomas Savage’s 1967 novel, THE POWER OF THE DOG is filmmaker Jane Campion’s (Academy Award Winner THE PIANO) first film since her 2009 feature BRIGHT STAR. The year is 1925. Severe, pale-eyed, and handsome, charismatic rancher Phil Burbank inspires fear and awe in those around him. When his brother George brings home his new wife Rose and her son Peter, Phil wages a war of intimidation and cruelty. Over time, Phil appears to take the boy under his wing. Is this latest gesture a softening that leaves Phil exposed, or a plot twisting further into menace? Nominated for 12 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and four acting nominations.
