Jan Palach
Jan Palach, an uncompromising young man, made the ultimate sacrifice in protest the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. This biopic describes the last months of Palach’s life and his path from an affectionate son, devoted friend and sensitive philosophy student through his self-immolation in Wenceslas Square.
About Jan Palach
Jan Palach was a twenty-year-old student at Charles University when he decided to take his own life on January 16, 1969, just five months after the Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia. The invasion and its subsequent occupation ended the political liberalization reforms of the communist regime referred to broadly as the Prague Spring of 1968. Jan Palach died of his wounds on January 19, with thousands attending his funeral in unity to protest the totalitarian regime. To many all over the world, Jan Palach remains a bold symbol of courage.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Palach’s death.
